Our Culture
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Statement
We at Sterling Group are committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Our inclusive, supportive climate enables us to better meet the needs and expectations of our colleagues, investors, customers and communities. We believe that variety of opinion, approach, perspective and talent are the cornerstones of a strong, flexible and competitive company.
Community Engagement Program
We encourage and support colleagues who are interested in engaging the communities in which we live and work. Our Community Engagement Program invites all colleagues to support a wide variety of local causes and community activities meaning the most to them.
Each quarter, colleagues living and working across Sterling's multi-state footprint are encouraged to submit their community engagement requests for sponsorship consideration. All requests are reviewed and selected based on local impact and how it affects those less fortunate.
Our culture is about encouraging all colleagues to engage with their communities. We take pride in the opportunity to sponsor cause-based activities and events positively impacting multiple states year-round.

Volunteer Day
We recognize it is our responsibility as good corporate citizens to enrich our communities and offer our colleagues the opportunity to make a difference for the better.
The Sterling Group awards every colleague one day away from work each year to serve a societal cause of their choosing. We strongly believe these 3,200+ available hours of voluntary support are an important investment in our communities and in our colleagues’ personal charitable satisfaction.
Jaxson William Augustus Swank (JWAS) Foundation
We have a long personal relationship with the JWAS Foundation and have made them Sterling Group’s charity of choice.
Jaxson, the son of our founder Larry Swank and wife Sherry, was taken from this world way too soon. In an effort to perpetuate Jaxson's loving memory, Larry and Sherry Swank turned their deep sadness to enhancing the lives of other children by forming the JWAS Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to provide full scholarships to children from lower socio-economic means from preschool through college. As of 2024, the foundation assists the educational goals of 22 Michiana children through funding academic scholarships and services at Holy Family School, La Lumiere School, Marian High School, Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes, Saint Joseph Grade School, Saint Jude Catholic School, Saint Mary's College, and The Stanley Clark School.
Customized resources are offered to each Jaxson Scholar and their families to help them reach their full potential and become forces for good in our community.
Together, we are honoring an amazing little boy who made a huge impact on all who knew him during his short time with us. For a child lost, a gift is given.
